Projects Description:

Responsible for development of Energy Management Systems (EMS), an electrical automation power monitoring system eLAN that comprise of HMI software (Wonderware), interfaced to electrical hardware instrumentation and third party devices like PLCs. Communication between the I/O peripherals and Software is established using the Modbus (RTU) Communication protocol over RS232 – RS 485 Networks. I/O peripherals are usually Enercon Meters, GE PLC’s, Siemens PLC’s, and CIRCUTOR Range of instrumentation. Communications are also sometime done with other meters with different protocols such as Allen Bradley.

Depending on the nature of projects, projects may involve 1 to 3 members for development and execution, often work independently from start to finish except for testing. Each EMS project involves detailed study of the customers electrical networks, his electrical monitoring requirements, following which interfaces and software are developed using Intouch and the MIS reports in either Visual Basic or VBA with Excel/ Access as the report front end depending on the customization complexity.

Worked on projects designing EMS - Power Monitoring systems for clients in major industrial sectors like Chemical, Paint, Cement plants, Hotel industries, Pharmaceutical, Paper and Tobacco Industries. A sampling of Clients worked for - Asian Paints ( Delhi and Hyderabad), Hindustan Newsprints,Taj Bengal, ITC - Kidderpore ,GE - BEL,Lucas TVS , Hindustan Newsprints Limited, Hitect City in all around 20 projects till date.

Other Projects

• EMS solution developed for single station monitoring as well as client / server based multiterminal monitoring
• Implementation of more varied types of PC – I/O Device /PC - PC communication such as Cable based Communication, Modem based Communication for Remote Monitoring systems, LAN based communications for different SCADA systems such as RSVIEW and Wonderware.
• Testing and analysis of in house developed SCADA software microeLAN.

Noteworthy Projects
Project 1 : Power Management and Monitoring ( over multiple workstations in a LAN Network)
Customer: Hindustan Newsprint Limited
Control System: Enercon EM Meters (90 nodes) and Wonderware Intouch v 7.1,Protocol – Modbus RTU
Team Members: Independent development, execution and commissioning (except for Testing).

The project involves designing complete energy management systems for the entire HNL Plant. The system has features such as Power monitoring, Trending, Alarm Handling have been implemented by the SCADA system. MIS Reports, primarily energy consumption reports based on real time power flows and energy billing systems have been done in Excel using Visual Basic.
Remote Monitoring facility has been provided by using Virtual Network Computing Software to other departments, which are able to monitor and view the SCADA system in real time in different systems.

Many other projects are of similar nature.

Project 2: Remote Monitoring of Meters over Telephone Lines using Modems
Customer : Technology Demonstration. Commercial Implementation under progress
Team Members: 4

Remote Monitoring of Meters or communicable peripheral devices is a solution that has been developed in response to the need of situations where i/o devices are spread out across vast industrial sites and the control station is located else where. Here solution has been designed by using modem – PLC master controllers connected to groups of meters / devices and through telephone network either PSTN/ Internal Exchange data is transferred using dedicated lines. This project is currently under implementation.

Project 3 : Interfacing of RSVIEW and Wonderware to establish cross communication between the two
Customer: Lafarge India Limited
Team Size: Independent

In this project, data interfacing of 2 SCADA systems were established where data from RS View was communicated into Wonderware SCADA and vice versa. In this way the Control Engineering Dept and Electrical Department of the cement unit were able to get useful data such as Temperature Data, Production Data from RS View and Power Measurement Data from Wonderware systems.

Project 4: Development of Electric Billing Systems for Commercial Complexes
Customer: L&T Infocity and L&T ECC - Hitec City Cybergateway Complex
Team size : Independent execution

This is a commercial building complex in Hyderabad housing various commercial tenants such as GE, ORACLE etc. The project involves development of a electrical billing software that monitors the consumption of Electricity (lighting) and generates bills at the end of specified period which include electricity charges, air-conditioning charges based on the damper data inputs from BMS software. This solution uses Wonderware Software, Allen Bradelly PLCs and Enercon Instrumentation as core components of the project.

Softwares Used :
Front End : Wonderware Intouch, MS Excel
BackEnd : MSSQL 2000 Server.

Other Projects-Engineering
Project Title: Bi-polar Torque controls of a Brushless DC motor using 8051 microcontroller.
Client : Indian Space Research Organization - October 1998 - July 1999

Project Description: The aim was to develop a bipolar method torque control using the microcontroller instead of the then currently used transistor based control. In reality the control is achieved through ground station using Telemetry but in the project demonstration the same was achieved from computer control. Both the hard ware and the software algorithm has been designed and developed by us. More details about this project can be had from http://beproject.tripod.com
