In Pictures - Travel -  Shivagange

Shivagange is a sleepy little town located around 45 Kms from Bangalore. This place has not yet found a mark with tourism board but is a popular destination for trekkers and the religious minded. The nearest major city is Bangalore and the nearest town is Dobbspet [5 Kms] and lies off the Bangalore - Bombay Highway (NH-4).

The trek in pictures.

These pictures are in low resolution, if you want them mailed to you send me email at satyakip at gmail dot com

We start our journey. Just crossing the city's outskirts.

Cross Roads - Towards the left , Mangalore. Moving Right Ahead  Bombay, North Karnataka and Ofcouse our destination Sivgange.

On the highway (NH-4) : India's up commming 4 -6 lane highways.

This is not Nandi Hills - The Nandi Bull at the base of the climb.

The road  ahead. Beginning the lengthy climb.

All Quiet on the Northern Front. View of the scenery from a point midway.

Beautiful Karnataka Country side  - This point lies midway in-between the base and the top.

On the midway to the climb, you come across a small underground temple ( above is the rock ceiling only about 6 ft in height in a few places.)

Legend has it that you need to touch water with your hands through a small hole. If you are able to do so your wishes would come true.

Hmm felt Water , but yet to feel the wish comming true.

Ravi's Wish hadn't yet come through but seems to be thrilled with the idea.

The final 1000 meter climb. It appears an easy climb or so we thought with all the manmade stairs carved out of the stone.........only to realize that

..... It's mainly rocks for your climb and the rusty rails for support.

Of course a few steps here and there provided some relief.

Tired Legs.....

And miles to go before we stop.... momentarily we felt like we on Mission Everest.

Finally we made it to the top. From Left to right [ Me and my friends Chinmay and Ravi ]

Heaven..... the view from the top was definitely worth the climb, but then we had only reached half way through.
We still had the other half of our journey, going ALL THE WAY DOWNHILL.
